Vincent Chalias

Ocean Gardener - Founder / Course Director

Biography

Vincent has been diving Indonesian reefs for over 25 years. He started the first Indonesian commercial coral farms in 2000 and produced a million corals over his commercial farming career. He has since dedicated his life to the coral reefs. He has worked in Australia and Saudi Arabia on different Large Scale Coral Reef Restoration projects.

Vincent is an avid underwater photographer and article author, and his works have been published in many diving and reef aquarium publications.

Ocean Gardener stands as a beacon of hope for the coral reefs of Indonesia. Established in 2016, we are a diverse team of biologists, divers and enthusiasts. We rely on 25 years of coral farming experience in Indonesia to drive our education and restoration efforts.

We partner with local communities, hotels, resorts and dive shops to setup and deploy coral nurseries using our protocols ensuring good rates of survival. From these nurseries, we harvest donor coral colonies to restore the surrounding reefs.

Collectively with our partners, we have planted over 1 million corals, with over 200,000 corals planted in the last few years through large scale coral reef restoration projects.

We offer tours for the public to learn about coral restoration and courses for people wanting more hands-on and  in-depth knowledge.
