PADI Women’s Dive Day 2025 – Celebrating Women

Encouraging women to dive and thrive

Every year PADI women day is celebrated around the world to support the role of women in diving and reduce gender disparities in the industry. At Ceningan Divers we believe the ocean belongs to everyone regardless of gender, background, or experience. This year we hosted another memorable event to celebrate the strength, courage and passion of female divers.

Since its launch in 2015, PADI Women’s dive day has grown into a global movement that unites thousands of women from all walks of life. From small islands to major cities, women now share a growing love for the ocean and a commitment to protecting our blue planet.

The challenges facing women in the dive industry

Although the number of female divers continues to grow, women in the diving industry still face several challenges especially in professional and leadership roles. For many, the industry is still perceived as male dominated, particularly when it comes to technical diving, underwater photography, dive instruction and marine conservation leadership.

Cultural and societal expectations can also create barriers for women, especially in countries like Indonesia, where traditional gender roles may discourage women from pursuing careers that involve travels, physical strength, or working in remote marine environments. Moreover, lack of representation and mentorship often leads to feelings of isolation or self-doubt.

But through events like PADI Women’s day, we hope to challenge these limitations, raise awareness and create a space where women can feel safe, supported, and seen.

Diving with six incredible women

As part of this year’s celebration, Ceningan Divers offered a special opportunity  to six certified women divers, a free afternoon dive for the first who registered via email. The goal was not just to dive but to connect, uplift and celebrate the spirit of sisterhood underwater.

Guided by our female instructors and dive leader, the group explored the stunning reefs of Nusa Lembongan. seeing their smiles after surfacing the joy, the pride, the energy was truly unforgettable. One participant said, it felt empowering to dive with other women, to share this experience together, and to feel like we belong here.

For many of us, diving is more than a sport; it’s a powerful way to reclaim space, overcome fear, and find freedom beneath the surface.

Opportunities for Indonesian Women in Diving

There is a growing opportunity for Indonesian women to step into the world of diving not only as recreational divers but as dive professionals, scientists, conservationists, and eco-tourism leaders. With thousands of dive sites across the archipelago and a booming dive tourism industry, the potential is enormous.

Programs in Marine Conservation internships and Divemaster training are creating pathways for women from coastal communities to access education, certifications, and jobs in the dive industry. More and more dive centers are now recognizing the importance of gender inclusion not only as a matter of fairness, but as a way to strengthen the entire diving community.

When Indonesian women become role models in the field, they help open the door for the next generation of girls to dream of a life connected to the sea as scientists, divers, educators, and changemakers.

A Personal Journey: Why I Dive

As a young woman from Indonesia, I didn’t grow up thinking I could have a career in diving. I only learned to dive a few years ago, and since then, everything has changed. I fell in love with the feeling of being underwater, the stillness, the color, the mystery.

But what truly drew me in was the community, especially the women already working as dive professionals. Their stories inspired me, and I started to imagine a future for myself in this field. I realized that diving is not just about exploring the ocean; it’s about building confidence, forming connections, and protecting what we love.

Now, I’m continuing my journey in the dive industry working, learning, and dreaming of one day becoming a marine biologist. Through every dive, I feel more connected to nature, to myself, and to the amazing women who have paved the way before me.

Diving Deeper, Together

At Ceningan Divers, we believe that diving should be accessible, inclusive, and empowering. Through events like Women’s Dive Day, we hope to spark inspiration and create meaningful experiences for every woman who dreams of exploring the ocean.
